Asfalto is our online urban art academy, which we have developed in order to teach people about art. Whether you go to Valparaiso, New York City, Berlin, or Lisbon, this course will teach you to understand street art in a most detailed manner.
We have four courses prepared to show you the world of Urban Art;

1. INT 101 - An Introduction to Urban Art
Urban Art is currently the most viewed type of artistic expression in the world.
Anywhere you go to in the world, there will be some sort of artistic communication depicted on that city's urban spaces.
The purpose of this course is to understand three main disciplines: Muralism, Graffiti and Street Art.
We begin talking about Russia's Avant Garde movement; we then go to Mexico, and get a detailed description on their Muralist movement.
We then Travel to Chile, where the fathers of modern muralism came to paint their works.
We'll talk about political uprisings that led to clandestine brigades risking their lives to paint the walls of Chile.
Graffiti will then take the spotlight as it is a discipline which started in the United States, and spread all over the world.
The course ends with a look at the last 20 years of urban art, followed by a quick crash course of drawing your very own urban art piece!

2. MUR 202 - Muralism: History And Legacy
Muralism was one of the main reasons why we have so many artistic expressions on our walls, It was a very "in-your-face", revolutionary style of painting, and these founding fathers of Muralism were not interested in what people had to say about their work. If they felt they they needed to paint about any injustice or political tendency, they did just that.
This course is a chronological presentation that goes from Muralism to Modern day "Neo-Muralism". We'll see some amazing works, as this is a very underrated and misunderstood discipline

GRA 303 - Graffiti: Illegal Traces
Graffiti is a prehistoric way of communicating among humans.
This course focuses on graffiti starting in World War II, and then being a popular activity in the 1960's and 1970's, in both Philadelphia and New York City.
In the late 1960's, when it became a youth subculture, graffiti artists began perfecting common street writing, and it has now become one of the most viewed art forms in the world, having taken over every corner of the earth.
In this course we'll talk about graffiti writing, graffiti art And will clear up common misconceptions in regards to this discipline which many people think is only related to vandalism.
We end this course with a graffiti Workshop.

Many choose to travel to different places of the world just to see street art -- others collect it, and use it to decorate their homes. Large corporations have begun using street art in order to promote creativity, and this art can now be found at corporate offices around the world.
Auctions carried out have taken street art pieces to a level street artist never imagined, going well over the million-dollar mark.
The bold actions, audacity and harsh critical statements of these artists, have been one of the key reasons for its success, and have put it on the map in most major cities around the world.
This course focuses on teaching you street art from as early beginnings, when Dadaist artists began to defy art, to the days of Banksy and the worldwide hunt to reveal his identity.
